In response to more young people choosing to travel by bus, Glasgow Citybus will be increasing its frequency on its service 15 bus route.
The new Milngavie to Glasgow City Centre timetable, launching on Monday 06 February, will increase frequency from hourly to every 30 minutes Monday to Friday, and hourly on a Saturday.
The route serves Milngavie, Baljaffray, Bearsden, Canniensburn Toll, Anniensland and includes Glasgow University, West of Scotland Science Park and Gartnavel Hospital.
The new bus times are expected to make it quick and easy to travel to and from the city for both commuters and the growing student market traveling to the number of colleges and universities across the city including Glasgow University’s Bearsden and west end and campus.
Richy Graham, operations manager at Glasgow Citybus, said: “We are delighted to be offering more journeys on our increasingly popular service 15, Milngavie to Glasgow route.
“Since the launch of the Scottish Government’s under 22 free bus travel scheme we are seeing a positive shift in the number of younger people choosing to jump on bus and are pleased to be able to react to this demand.
“We hope our new and improved timetable encourages more people to ditch the car and switch to bus and in turn help reduce congestion in our towns and city.”
Local Independent Councillor Duncan Cumming said: “I am absolutely delighted Glasgow Citybus has taken the commercial decision to further enhance the route by increasing the frequency to every half hour. I know many local people see this service as an absolute lifeline. People will be so pleased. I would also like to thank Strathclyde Partnership for Transport for continuing to subsidise part of the route.
“With the climate emergency and the cost-of-living situation, it makes even more sense for each and every one of us to try to use public transport. This enhanced service will make this so much more possible.”
Another change for the bus company will be its name. It will be dropping Glasgow Citybus in place of West Coast Motors, the name of its parent company.
The move is designed to make it easier for customers when using the company’s website and mobile app, both under the West Coast Motors brand.
Mr Graham said: “Our website and mobile app are under the West Coast Motors brand so the name change should make it easier for customers to access live bus times and plan journeys. In terms of our buses, the colour and branding will stay the same, the only difference being customers will start to see West Coast Motors instead of Glasgow Citybus.”
