Free Bus Travel for Under 22s

You can apply:

  • Online at getyournec.scot.
  • Directly with your local council. You can find their details here. Scroll down and select your local council area.
  • If you’re aged between 16 and 21 and already have an active NEC or Young Scot NEC, you have the option to download free bus travel onto your existing card using the Transport Scot Pass Collect app.

Free Bus Travel for Children Aged 5-10

Parents Portal is a convenient way to apply for free bus travel in Scotland for your child aged between 5 and 10 years old, provided their school uses the Parents Portal service. Here’s how to do it:

  • Access Parents Portal: Head to the Parents Portal website.
  • Login: Sign in using your existing credentials.
  • Services Tab: Once logged in, scroll down and find the “Services” tab.
  • Young Person’s Free Bus Travel: Within the “Services” tab, you should see an option for “Young Person’s Free Bus Travel.” Click on it to access the application section.
  • Select Your Child: If you have multiple children registered on Parents Portal, you’ll be prompted to choose the child you’re applying for.

Bus Travel for Over 60s in Scotland

If you are aged 60 or over, you can apply for a National Entitlement Card (NEC) that allows you to travel for free on most bus services across Scotland.

How to Apply

There are a few ways you can apply for your NEC:

To qualify for the NEC for free bus travel, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 60 or over.
  • Be a permanent resident of Scotland.
